It’s Technically a Fruit

I am shocked that I found that Olives could literally  be counted as one of the worlds healthiest foods. I was doubly as shocked to find out that Olives are  (technically) classified as fruits!  They  interestingly are grown on the Olea europea tree… (an amazing tree that typically lives for hundreds of years)!

Botanically Speaking…

From a botanical standpoint, olives belong to a group of fruits called drupes. Drupes are fruits that have a pit or stone at their core, which is surrounded by a larger fleshy portion called the pericarp. An example of other drupes commonly found in diets all over the world  include Mango, Cherry, Peach, Plum, Apricot, Nectarine, Almond, and Pistachio.

Olives are low in carbohydrates and high in healthy fats which explain the reason for one health benefit, ( Heart Health).
